Indian Women’s Volleyball Team Clinches Convincing Victory Over Iran in AVC Challenge Cup

In a spirited display of skill and determination, the Indian Women’s Volleyball Team secured a comprehensive 3-0 victory against Iran in the 2024 AVC Challenge Cup for Women. The match took place at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum in Manila, Philippines.

India dominated the court, winning all three sets with scores of 25-17, 25-23, and 25-21. Their cohesive teamwork and strategic play allowed them to outclass their opponents. Jini Kovat Shaji, the Indian team captain, showcased exceptional leadership. Her sound decision-making in offence contributed significantly to India’s success.

India capitalized on their service game, delivering a total of six service aces. This strategic move put pressure on the Iranian side and disrupted their rhythm. India displayed versatility in their attacks. They executed transition plays with craftiness and creativity, converting crucial points. Their backcourt players maintained consistency, ensuring long rallies went in their favour.

In the second set, India adjusted their offence, distributing plays with variety. Shalini Saravanan and Anagha Radhakrishnan stepped up with crucial plays, securing the set for India. Coach Jai Narain attributed India’s success to their players’ experience and psychological stability. Despite slow starts, they adjusted and delivered when it mattered most.

Anusree Kambrath Poyilil emerged as a key player, contributing 15 points overall. Her service winner and attack sealed the victory in the third set.

With their impressive start, India aims for a podium finish in this edition of the AVC Challenge Cup.
