Every aspiring Indian cricketer dreams to play for the country in Test matches as it is the purest and the oldest form of cricket. Although there are three formats in international cricket, Tests always are at the forefront for cricketers as it provides the toughest challenge, Some players get the chance of playing for the country in ODIs and T20Is but are unable to make a case for themselves in the Test format. Let’s look at some of the Indian players who have played for India for more than 6 years but still haven’t made their debut in Test cricket.
Here are four Indian white-ball specialists who haven’t made their Test debut yet:
1. Yuzvendra Chahal
Yuzvendra Chahal is India’s premier spinner in white ball cricket and he is one of the leading leg spinners in world cricket right now. Making his debut in 2016, Chahal has played 67 ODIs and 62 T20Is. But the leg spinner has never broken into the Test squad. Chahal has said in the past that he wants to play for India in red-ball cricket as well. But at the moment, it is unlikely that he will ever get a chance.
2 Kedar Jadhav
Till 2020, Kedar was an integral part of the Indian white ball team, especially in the ODIs. Jadhav made his debut in 2014 against Sri Lanka in ODIs and has played 82 white ball games since. But even though he was a regular performer in domestic cricket, Jadhav never made it to the Indian Test squad. Now that he is out of the race for an India comeback, Jadhav will never get to play for India in whites.
3. Yusuf Pathan
Yusuf Pathan has been one of India’s biggest match-winners in limited overs cricket and he became a household name after the 2008 IPL where he took the tournament by storm. Pathan made his international debut against Pakistan in the 2007 T20 World Cup and played 79 white ball games in his career. Unlike his younger brother Irfan, Yusuf never got to play for India in Tests. Pathan retired from all forms of cricket in 2021. Hence, he will go down as the unlucky one who never got to play for India in Tests.
4. Sanju Samson
Sanju Samson is one of the best talents in India. He made his international debut against Zimbabwe in a T20I in 2015. But he did not get many opportunities since and when he finally got some chances, Samson failed to avail those. But Samson has stitched a great comeback in white-ball cricket for India lately. He is not yet in the reckoning for an India call-up in Tests but if he continues his excellent show in white ball cricket and Ranji Trophy, a Test call-up for him may not be that far away.
