The Indian women’s and men’s tennis teams have etched their names in the annals of sporting achievement, securing bronze medals at the prestigious BRICS Games held in Kazan, Russia.

BRICS Games: Women’s Team Triumph over Republika Srpska

In the third-place play-off, the Indian women’s team faced off against Republika Srpska and emerged victorious with a 2-0 win. Vaishnavi Adkar displayed resilience, staging a strong comeback after losing the first set. She defeated Sara Mikaca with a scoreline of 6-7 (5), 7-5, 6-2. Akanksha Nitture sealed the medal by dominating her opponent, Anastasija Ignatic, with a 6-3, 6-0 victory.

Coached by Ankita Bhambri, the Indian men’s team secured their bronze medal by defeating Uzbekistan with a 2-0 scoreline. Karan Singh and Chirag Duhan showcased their prowess, triumphing over Amir Milushev and Ilya Ignatov, respectively.

While celebrating their own success, both teams recognize the talent and determination of their opponents. The Indian women had previously faced a tough challenge against Belarus in the semifinals, with Belarus ultimately finishing as the runner-up to Russia.

BRICS Games: India’s medal Tally rises

These bronze medals signify India’s competitive spirit and commitment to excellence on the global stage. The BRICS Games provide a platform for athletes from Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa to showcase their skills and foster international camaraderie.

With victories in Tennis, India’s medal tally has now risen to 16 medals. The contingent, meanwhile, is currently placed in 7th position with 1 gold, 3 silvers, and 12 bronze medals, thanks primarily to the exploits of India’s Wushu squad. With three more days remaining to the games, India’s medal tally is expected to rise even further.
