The journey of this remarkable achievement began at the Saudi Smash 2024, held at the Sports Hall King Abdullah Sports City in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The Indian duo faced off against Paulina Vega and Nicolas Burgos in the mixed doubles category. In what was a nail-biting encounter, Desai and Ghorpade showcased remarkable composure to secure victory in five sets. Their win helped them secure a place in the pre-quarterfinals, where they faced Maria Xiao and Alvaro Robles of Spain.

The Indian pair continued their winning streak by registering a shock 3-2 victory over the fifth seeds Alvaro Robles and Maria Xiao of Spain. The Indian pair prevailed 11-5, 5-11, 3-11, 11-7, 11-7 in a hard-fought contest to advance to the quarter-finals.

However, the duo was defeated0-3 (6-11, 10-12, 4-11) by the top-seeded Chinese pair of Wang Chuqin and Sun Yingsha in the quarters, bringing an end to the remarkable campaign.
