Indian skipper Virat Kohli Says IPL Will Have No Impact On India’s World Cup Selection

After much speculation, the twelfth edition of Indian Premier League is all set to take place in India and the cash-rich league will commence on March 23, much earlier than usual.

The opening match will be played between defending champion Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore in Chennai. The IPL is starting earlier than usual because of general elections in India. However, some foreign players won’t be playing the full tournament as to remain for the World Cup which will commence on 30th May 2019 in the United Kingdom and Wales.

Meanwhile, Indian Skipper Virat Kohli has said that IPL will have no impact on India’s World Cup selection.

No, I don’t see the IPL having any influence on World Cup selection. I think that will be very, very radical sort of analysis,” Kohli said in the press conference ahead of the first ODI.

We need to have a solid team. Before we head into the IPL, we need to be absolutely clear of what team we want for the World Cup. I don’t see anything changing on how the IPL goes for any of the players.

If one or two players do not have a good IPL season, it doesn’t mean that they are out of the picture for the World Cup. Those things are not going to matter,” Kohli said.
