Indian Shooters Divanshi, Suraj Sharma clinch Gold in 25m standard pistol at ISSF Junior World Championship

Indian pistol shooters Divanshi and Suraj Sharma both clinched gold medals in the 25m standard pistol events at the ISSF Junior World Championship 2024 held in Lima, Peru. Divanshi secured her second individual gold with a score of 564 out of 600, leading an Indian clean sweep in the women’s category. Her teammates Parisha Gupta and Manvi Jain took silver and bronze, respectively.

In the men’s category, Suraj Sharma topped the podium with a score of 571 out of 600, finishing ahead of Poland’s Ivan Rakistski. Mukesh Nelavalli, who already had four golds in the competition, settled for bronze.

Harsimar Singh Rattha (565), Raajwardan Singh Patil (562) and Pradhyumn Singh (562) finished seventh, eighth and ninth respectively.

Indians roar at the ISSF Junior World Championship

In the junior women’s 50m rifle-prone event, Melvina Joel Gladson (617.5) was the best Indian on the show with a 14th-place finish. Further back were Prachi Gaikwad (616.7), Khushi (615.1) Aadhya Agrawal (614.2) and Anoushka Thokur (611.9), in 19th, 26th, 27th and 35th spots respectively. Melvina, Prachi and Anoushka’s combined tally of 1846.1 gave them the sixth spot in the team competition in prone.

This remarkable performance contributed to India’s dominant medal tally at the championships, with a total of 21 medals – 13 gold, 2 silver, and 6 bronze.

Over 560 shooters from 51 countries are competing at the ISSF Junior World Championship 2024. India have fielded 61 shooters – the largest contingent – in the competition which ends on October 6.
