Indian professional boxer NT Lalbiakkima, who was undefeated throughout his first four bouts, has suffered his first loss as a pro in a WBC Asian Boxing Council’s Continental Light Flyweight Championship clash against Jayson Vayson in Dubai on Saturday.
The 10-round title fight, which took place at the Dubai World Trade centre in the late hours of Saturday, saw Vayson picking up a unanimous decision victory over Lalbiakkima, as all three judges scored the bout in the Filipino’s favor (97–94, 97–93, 96-94).
Both contestants went on the offensive from the start of the fight. Lalbiakkima, who hails from Mizoram, had a height disadvantage over Vayson and tried to work around it by leaping jabs added with right hooks, but was kept at an arm’s length by the latter using his reach.
Lalbiakkima had slowed down his approach in the fifth but Vayson kept his attacks up and made proper connections with his Indian counterpart using hooks and jabs to the body, as well as impeccable counterattack techniques.
Even though Lalbiakkima tried to make a comeback into the bout by landing heavy blows in the ninth, Vayson had already showcased his technical superiority and kept outboxing the Mizo boxer using combinations and left hooks, and took home the win, extending his undefeated record with his 10th pro victory.
