Md Azahar, a professional boxer who hails from Delhi, has been crowned the new WBC India Super Featherweight Championship after defeating his compatriot Dharamvir Singh on Sunday night.
The WBC India title fight, sanctioned by the Indian Boxing Council, saw Azahar emerging victorious over Dharamvir with a unanimous decision victory, as all three judges scored the bout in his favour (79-72, 76-75 and 79-72).
“I was comfortable, just sticking to doing what I do best,” said Azahar after his victory, “The game plan was to hit and not get hit. I fought a good smart fight. He couldn’t hit me with any of his best shots.” [H/T Sportstar]
The win puts Azahar at a pro record of five wins and five losses with 4 knockouts, while it marked the fourth loss of Dharamvir, who has racked up seven wins in his career.
The boxing event had a total of eight matches on Sunday night. Jaskaran Singh pitted against Harsamardeep Singh on the latter’s debut as a pro, won via points decision in a four round cruiserweight bout. A six round middleweight contest saw boxer Shiva, making a comeback after two years, mark another unanimous decision win (58-56, 58-56, 58-56) over Karanjeet Singh.
