The Indian Para Swimming team made a remarkable impact at the Zagreb Para Swimming Open 2024 held in Croatia from 5th to 7th July 2024. Their outstanding performances resulted in a total of seven medals, showcasing their talent, determination, and resilience.
Indian Para Swimming Team’s tremendous performance
Saee Pujari, competing in the S7 category, clinched the gold medal in the 400m freestyle event, setting a new national record. She secured the silver medal in the 100m freestyle, once again achieving a national record. Saee’s prowess in the 50m butterfly stroke earned her a silver medal and another national record. She completed her medal haul with a bronze medal in the 50m freestyle, yet again setting a national record.

Mohammad Shams in the S5 category displayed his strength in the breaststroke, winning the silver medal. He secured another silver medal in the 200m individual medley, contributing significantly to the team’s success. This performance also marked a new national record. Mohammad Shams added to his achievements with a bronze medal in the 50m butterfly.
S5 and S7 Category: This classification is used for freestyle, butterfly, and backstroke events. The 5 sport class is for swimmers who have moderate difficulty in coordination and have significant impairment in their mid-trunk and legs, or who have missing limbs. Whereas the 7 sport class is designated for swimmers who have one leg and one arm amputation on opposite sides, or a paralysis of one arm and one leg on the same side.
