Indian paddler Sathiyan Gnanasekaran signs up with French Pro A league club for 2022-23 season


Keeping the preparations about the upcoming 2024 Summer Olympic Games in Paris, Indian table tennis star and Commonwealth Games gold medallist Sathiyan Gnanasekaran has signed up with Jura Morez Tennis de Table, a top tier club in the French Pro A league for the 2022-23 season.

Sathiyan, who is currently ranked at 33 in the world, participated in the Tokyo Olympic Games last year and also plays for the Sokolow SA Jaroslaw in the Polish Superliga. He is expected to make his debut for Jura Morez following this year’s Asian Games which will take place in Hangzhou, China in September.

“Extremely happy to share that I have signed up with JURA MOREZ TENNIS DE TABLE club in the French top tier league PRO A for 2022-23 season,” Sathiyan posted on Twitter on Thursday.

“It is one of the best leagues in the world and looking forward to make my debut in France,” an elated Sathiyan worded on his signup with the French side, “Most likely would join the club after Asian Games. It would also be great preparation keeping in account of Paris 2024 Olympics.”

The 29-year-old, who hails from Chennai, Clinched gold, silver and bronze at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in men’s team, men’s doubles and mixed doubles events respectively. In the same year, he clinched another bronze in the men’s team category at the Asian Games.
