20-year old Indian racing driver Jehan Daruvala who is a resident of Mumbai made the nation proud when he won Race 2 of the 2019 Formula 3 championship in Barcelona, Spain.

Daruvala who races for Team Prema was the only Indian competing at this championship. This was an important race for him and he showed tremendous improvement in Race 2 after completing Race 1 in the seventh position. Robert Schwartzman who is also from Team Prema was the winner of Race 1.

Jehan had the advantage over other racers right from the beginning, as there were two restarts during the race due to collisions which put Jehan in the front row start.

The first restart took place as there was a collision between four cars after just five laps, these collisions helped Jehan maintain a healthy lead of over 7.4 seconds over Finnish driver Niko Kari of Team Trident at P2.

But during the second restart, Jehan lost the 7.4-second lead he had maintained, but nonetheless, Jehan raced brilliantly and crossed the chequered flag 2.121 seconds. Estonian racer Juri Vips Hitech Grand Prix secured the second position.

After the race was over, Jehan Daruvala thanked his team Prema. He said, “During the race I was, let’s say, in control, except for the first restart when I didn’t surprise the guy behind, enough, so I had to defend. After that, I was just managing the pace. I have to thank everyone at Prema Racing for giving me a fantastic car. I did not overdrive it, although if I needed more I could have pushed in the final couple of laps.”
