Indian men’s team enters Thomas and Uber Cup knockout round with 5-0 win over Canada

The Indian men’s badminton team have secured their berth in the knockout stage of the ongoing Thomas and Uber Cup after they thrashed Canada 5-0 to ensure a top-2 finish in Group C.

Coming from a 5-0 domination over Germany on Sunday, the Indian team made another whitewash against Canada in their group clash on Monday. They will now face Chinese Taipei in their final Group C match on Wednesday.

Kidambi Srikanth put India on the front after a superb performance against Brian Yang. The World Championships silver medallist came from behind to secure a 20-22, 21-11, 21-15 win over the Canadian shuttler in 52 minutes.

Up next saw a quick victory from the Chirag Shetty-Satwiksairaj Rankireddy duo, who took only 29 minutes to get the better of Jason Anthony Ho-Shue and Kevin Lee, followed by H S Prannoy putting India at 3-0 with a 21-15, 21-12 win over B R Sankeerth.

Krishna Prasad Garaga and Vishnuvardhan Goud Panjala won the second doubles encounter for India with defeating Dong Adam and Nyl Yakura within 34 minutes to a 21-15, 21-11 finish. Priyanshu Rajawat marked India’s fifth victory for the day in a back and forth 52-minute match against Victor Lal with a  21-13, 20-22, 21-14 win.

The women’s contingent of the country has also marked a winning start to their Uber Cup campaign with a 4-1 defeat of Canada on Sunday. They are set to take on USA and Korea on Tuesday and Wednesday respectively.
