In a reoccurrence of the stage 1 final, the Indian men’s compound team performed brilliantly in a neck to neck battle against France, coming from behind to finish to triumph by two points in the Archery World Cup stage 2 final in Lausanne, Switzerland to clinch the gold medal.
The fourth seeded Indian team, which had already defeated France by a single point in the stage 1 final back in April at Antalya in April, once again achieved victory over their six seeded rivals to bag their successive world cup gold.
The trio of Abhishek Verma, Aman Saini and Rajat Chauhan, had fallen behind at first but were able to pace ahead their French equivalents Adrien Gontier, Jean Philippe Boulch and Qentin Baraer to finish with a 232-230 win.
In the mixed team event, Verma paired up with Avneet Kaur to outperform Amircan Haney and Ayse Bera Suzer of Turkey 156-155 to finish with a bronze, which marked Verma’s second medal of the tournament. It was also Kaur’s second bronze, having won the other one in the women’s event prior to it.
From a 39-all scoreline, the sixth seeded Indian duo fell behind by two points in the second end. From a 77-79 scoreline, Verma-Kaur narrowed the gap with their fourth seeded rivals with shooting 39/40, followed by an impeccable shooting of four 10s including one X in the fourth end to seal the victory.
