The Indian junior men’s hockey team kicked off their Europe tour in style, securing a thrilling victory against Belgium. In a closely contested match played in Antwerp, the Indian Colts showcased their skill and determination.

Indian Junior Men’s Hockey Team win in Penalty Shootout

India took the lead early in the game, with Shardanand Tiwari firing in a penalty stroke. Their tempo remained high throughout the first quarter, allowing them to hold onto their lead going into the break. Vice-Captain Shardanand Tiwari was the star of the match, scoring twice (in the 3rd and 27th minutes). His brace gave India a comfortable advantage.

Belgium fought back valiantly. They converted a penalty corner early in the third quarter, narrowing the goal deficit to one. As the game progressed, they equalized with another penalty corner, setting up an intense finish.

With no further goals in regulation time, the match headed into a penalty shootout. Gurjot Singh, Sourabh Anand Kushwaha, Dilraj Singh, and Manmeet Singh scored for India, while goalkeeper Prince Deep Singh made crucial saves. India emerged victorious in the shootout, winning 4-2.

India will face Belgium again in Breda, Netherlands on Wednesday, continuing their European tour. This thrilling win sets a positive tone for the Indian junior men’s team as they continue their campaign in Europe.
