India’s pride and Asian Games silver medallist Dutee Chand has qualified for the Asian Athletics Championships after clocking 23.30 seconds in the 200m Women’s race to clinch the gold medal at the Indian Grand Prix 2 held in New Delhi.
India’s top hurdler Dharun Ayyaswami too lived up to his stature and didn’t leave any scope for an upset as he completed the 400m hurdle race at 49.94s to secure the pole position.
MR Poovamma and Vismaya VK who were a part of the Asian Games gold medal winning team finished in the first and the second position in the Women’s 400m event. In the men’s 400m event, Tamil Nadu’s Arokia Rajiv completed the race in 46.49s to strike gold.
In the 1500m Men’s event, Uttar Pradesh’s Ajay Kumar Saroj took the top honors with a timing of 3:46:10. In the female version of the event, PU Chitra outran her compatriots and finished the race in 4:20:76.
This is the second edition of the Indian Grand Prix held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium after successfully conducting the first edition a year before. From 2020 onwards, the competition might be open to international athletes also as a lot of top Indian athletes skipped the event.
