Can Indian women’s football team do a double over Hong Kong?

In a historic moment for Indian Women’s football team, coach Maymol Rocky and her team obliterated Hong Kong 5-2 on Monday at their own den. Dangmei Gracie was the star of the team as she scored a brace while Sanju Yadav, Sumithra, and Ratanbala Devi completed the routing.

Dangmei Grace didn’t have to wait long to get her name in the scoresheet as she connected Indumathi Kathiresan’s through pass to break the deadlock in the 6th minute itself. Cheung Wei Ki leveled things up in the 17th minute but the joy was short lived as Dangmei scored her second goal five minutes later. Sanju Yadav put salt in Hong Kong’s wounds just before the half-time whistle to give India a two-goal cushion.

Hong Kong continued to press forward and got one back through Chung Pui Ki in the 70th minute. But, their hopes of finding the equalizer were dashed by Sumithra in the 82nd minute. Before Hong Kong could recuperate from that goal, Ratanbala Devi piled further misery on Hong Kong as she made the scoreline 5-2 a minute later.

The final scoreline remained the same and, the Indian women’s football team’s next task in hand would be to get a second win over Hong Kong when they cross swords on January 23.
