East Bengal pip Mohun Bagan in an entertaining I-League encounter for the Indian Football fans

East Bengal FC pipped Mohun Bagan AC 3-2 in the first I-League Kolkata Derby of the 2018-19 season. This was East Bengal’s first win against Mohun Bagan in the past seven encounters and was a treat for all the Indian football fans to watch.
It was Mohun Bagan who opened the floodgates in the 13th minute after Omar El Houssieny delivered a brilliant low cross towards him. East Bengal restored the parity four minutes later thanks to Laldanmawia Ralte.
Jobby Justin gave East Bengal the lead just before the half-time whistle through an acrobatic overhead kick. Mohun Bagan’s central defender and captain Eze Kingsley was sent off after bringing down the Keralite. The Nigerian didn’t even protest as he knew he thoroughly deserved the second yellow.
From the resultant free-kick, Lalrindika Ralte curled in a whipping cross and, Laldanmawia Ralte connected it with his head. The Mohun Bagan goalkeeper made a point-blank save but, the rebound fell straight towards the feet of the East Bengal midfielder who made it 3-1.
Despite being a man down, Mohun Bagan dominated the possession and midfield proceedings and played much better, to say the least. The East Bengal fans had their heart in their mouth when Dipanda Dicka scored a goal in the 75th minute.
East Bengal only had to hold on to the game for 15 more minutes. After a lot of hiccups, East Bengal survived the storm and won the match. This win takes East Bengal to the fifth spot in the table, with 12 points from 7 matches.
Mohun Bagan, on the other hand, is yet to win a match in Kolkata this season and languish in the eighth place with 7 points from 9 matches.
Mumbai City FC hammer Kerala Blasters 6-1 in ISL
Like the previous I-League encounter, the ISL match between Mumbai City FC and Kerala Blasters didn’t disappoint the Indian football fans. Mumbai City FC’s Modou Sougou blasted the ball four times past Kerala Blasters in the 12th, 15th, 30th, and 94th minute.
Rafael Bastos and Matias Mirabje were the other goalscorers for Mumbai City FC, both of the goals being a spectacular one. Seiminlen Doungel did score one goal for Kerala Blasters in the 27th minute but, Kerala Blasters couldn’t capitalize on it.
Modou Sogou becomes the first ISL player to score four goals in a single ISL match
Mumbai City FC’s Modou Sougou became the first ISL player to score four goals in a single ISL match after he overwhelmed Kerala Blasters.
Before the match, 22 hat-tricks were scored in the ISL history. However, the Indian football fans never witnessed a player scoring four goals in a single ISL match. Modou Sougou ended the long wish of the Indian football fans today.
Chennai City FC share the spoils with Minerva Punjab in I-League
In the 02:00 p.m. kickoff match of the I-League, Chennai City FC and Minerva Punjab shared the spoils in a 0-0 draw. Unlike the two later tantalizing matches of the day, it wasn’t that eventful for the Indian football fans.
Had Minerva Punjab converted a penalty in the 90th minute of the game, Chennai City FC could have lost all the points. However, the feeble kick was comfortably collected by Chennai City FC’s goalkeeper as Chennai City FC’s unbeaten run in the I-League continued.
