Bengaluru FC exorcized their past demons to become the first table-topper to clinch the ISL trophy after pipping FC Goa in the final courtesy of a late strike from Rahul Bheke. This victory also means that the team will be back in representing Asia in the continental competitions after missing out on the present year.

The first half was an insipid one as both the sides did their homework and chances rarely came calling. The second half of regulation time also had the same story with Miku hitting the crossbar being the only meaningful chance created.

Ahmed Jahouh was given the marching orders just before the first half of extra time ended for going into the book for the second time. Bengaluru FC made full use of the extra men in the corner-kick in the 117th minute as Dimas Delgado curled in a corner-kick which Rahul Bheke nodded in after taking a deflection off the woodwork.

Bengaluru FC saw out the remainder of the game as they claimed their first silverware under new coach Carles Cuadrat. Their next target will be to win the Hero Super Cup.

SAFF Women’s Championship: India thrash Sri Lanka

Indian Women’s Football Team thrashed Sri Lanka in the second group stage game 5-0 to continue their winning run in Group B of the SAFF Women’s Championships. They had earlier mauled Maldives 6-0 in the competition.

Dangmei Grace found the back of the net in the fourth minute itself to give India the lead after pouncing on the rebound from Sanju’s initial shot. Sanju was again in the thick of actions as her cross three minutes later was connected by Sandhya who doubled India’s lead.

Indumathi and Sangita struck, too, to give India a four-goal insurmountable goal heading into the tunnel. The Blue Tigresses didn’t have to wait long to extend their lead as Ratanbala Devi smothered the ball home from just inside the penalty box.

The full-time scoreline remained 5-0 as India reached the semi-finals. They will cross swords with Bangladesh on 20th March for a spot in the finals.
