Former France head coach Raymond Domenech in contention to coach India
According to IANS, former France national team head coach Raymond Domenech is in contention to coach India. The 67-year-old is most famous for guiding France to the 2006 FIFA World Cup finals, where they eventually lost to Italy.
Raymond Domenech’s last role as the head coach of a team came way back in 2010 when he was a the helm of France football team. The team finished in the bottom of their group with only a draw against Uruguay.
The news agency further adds that AIFF has received around 200 applications from all across the globe. They will shortlist the candidates and send them for an interview with the Technical Committee headed by Shyam Thapa, who will advise the AIFF on selecting the new coach.
ISL Transfer News: Jobby Justin signs a three-year deal with ATK
East Bengal star striker and I-League’s highest Indian goalscorer Jobby Justin has signed a three-year deal with ISL club ATK. The Keralite’s contract with East Bengal will run its course by the end of May and, he will join ATK post that.
The two-time ISL champions even extended the contracts of Manuel Lanzarote, Edu Garcia, and John Johnson which will keep the end of the 2019-20 season. Speaking of contract extensions, Ahmed Jahouh has also signed an extension with FC Goa which will keep him for another year.
Women’s Olympic Football Qualifiers: India humble Indonesia
The Indian women’s football team humbled Indonesia in the Second Round of Olympic Qualifiers at the Mandalarthiri Stadium in Mandalay, Myanmar. Dangmei Brace struck twice for India as the final scoreline read 2-0.
Coming on the back of the 2019 SAFF Women’s Championships victory, India wreaked havoc on the Indonesian defense from the word-go and almost led the opposition to score an own goal in the 24th minute. However, Indonesia survived the scare thanks to a goal-line clearance.
Sandhiya marauded around 50 yards in the left wing before unleashing a shot from inside the penalty box but the Indonesian custodian was brave enough to parry away the danger momentarily. However, the ball fell kindly in the path of Dangmei Grace who made no mistake in scoring the goal.
In the 67th minute, it was deja vu for Dangmei Grace as she again picked up the spoils to make it 2-0. The final scoreline remained the same as they gear up for their next challenge- familiar foes Nepal- on 6th April. In the other group match, Myanmar humbled Nepal 3-1.
2019 AFC Cup: Minerva Punjab and Chennaiyin FC share spoils in a drab contest
Former I-League champions Minerva Punjab and former ISL champions Chennaiyin FC shared the spoils in a drab contest to begin their 2019 AFC Cup campaign. Not many shots were fired from either sides, with Robert Primus striking the post being the only goalmouth action.
