In a heart-stopping incident at the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, Indian Formula 2 driver Kush Maini survived a terrifying crash during the feature race in Baku. The 23-year-old, representing Invicta Racing, experienced a dramatic stall at the start, leading to a massive collision that left his car in pieces but fortunately left him unscathed.

The crash occurred on the opening lap of the feature race, a support event for the Formula 1 Azerbaijan Grand Prix. Maini, who had qualified in a strong fifth position, found himself in a precarious situation when his car failed to launch off the grid. As the lights went out, Maini’s car remained stationary, creating a dangerous obstacle for the drivers behind him.

Spanish driver Josep Maria Marti and Danish-German driver Oliver Goethe, who were directly behind Maini, had little time to react. Marti’s car collided with the rear of Maini’s vehicle, causing a chain reaction that resulted in Goethe’s car flipping upside down. The impact was severe, and the race was immediately red-flagged as emergency crews rushed to the scene.

Despite the severity of the crash, all drivers involved, including Maini, Marti, and Goethe, were able to walk away from the wreckage without major injuries. Maini’s father, Gautam Maini, confirmed that his son underwent all necessary medical checks and was found to be in good health. “He is doing okay. As part of the standard protocol, all medical check-ups were conducted on Kush, and all reports are normal,” he stated.

Kush Maini’s Season

Maini, in his second season of Formula 2, has shown promise with consistent performances. He is currently 11th in the championship standings, having accumulated points in several races throughout the season. Maini is also a part of the Alpine F1 Team’s driver academy, aiming for a reserve driver role in the upcoming season.

The Azerbaijan Grand Prix weekend had been a mixed bag for Maini. After missing out on points in the sprint race on Saturday, he was hopeful of a strong finish in the feature race. However, the crash brought an abrupt end to his ambitions for the weekend.
