Indian cricketer Shreyanka Patil has been dealt a blow ahead of the Women’s Asia Cup 2024. She sustained a fracture to the fourth finger of her left hand during India’s opening match against Pakistan on July 19 at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium. Unfortunately, this injury has ruled her out of further participation in the tournament.
Shreyanka Patil’s injury
Shreyanka’s absence is significant, as she is an all-rounder who contributes both with the bat and ball. Her injury occurred while attempting a catch during Pakistan’s run-chase. Interestingly, she had previously suffered an injury to the same hand while playing for RCB in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2024. Despite that setback, she made a strong comeback in the WPL, becoming the leading wicket-taker and winning the Emerging Player of the Series award. Her performance helped RCB secure their maiden title.
In Shreyanka’s absence, left-arm spinner Tanuja Kanwar was named her replacement on the Indian squad. Although Tanuja has yet to represent the national team, she was impressed during her stint with Beth Mooney’s Gujarat Giants in the WPL last season, finishing as the top wicket-taker.
Unfortunately, Shreyanka Patil has been ruled out of the ongoing Asia Cup due to a fractured finger. Wishing her a speedy recovery. ❤️🩹

India began their Women’s Asia Cup campaign on a positive note, defeating Pakistan by 7 wickets. The team’s bowlers, including Shreyanka, played a crucial role in restricting Pakistan to 108 runs. Now, with Shreyanka sidelined, India will rely on their remaining players to continue their winning momentum in the tournament.
