Wimbledon 2024

In a surprising turn of events, the second-seeded men’s doubles pair of Rohan Bopanna (India) and Matthew Ebden (Australia) faced a shock exit in the second round at Wimbledon 2024. The Australian Open champions were defeated in straight sets by the unseeded German duo of Constantin Frantzen and Hendrik Jebens.

Tough finish for Rohan Bopanna at Wimbledon 2024

Bopanna and Ebden lost 3-6, 6-7 (4) in a closely contested match on Court 6 in London. Their nerves faltered during the second-set tie-breaker, resulting in a straight-sets defeat. Bopanna and Ebden had high hopes in the tournament, aiming to secure their second major title of the season after their Australian Open victory. Unfortunately, their campaign ended prematurely.

With Bopanna’s exit, India’s representation in the tournament men’s doubles concluded. Other Indian players, including Sumit Nagal, N Sriram Balaji, and Yuki Bhambri, also faced varying outcomes in their respective matches. Nagal and Balaji lost in the first round. Bhambri progressed to the second round but eventually fell to the eighth-seeded German pair of Kevin Krawietz and Tim Puetz in three sets.

Despite the disappointment, Bopanna and Ebden’s journey showcased their talent and determination. The English Grandslam remains a stage where tennis enthusiasts witness both triumphs and heartbreaks, and this year was no exception.
