Junior Indian pugilists Krrish Pal and Ravi Saini assured the country two more silvers at the ongoing 2022 ASBC Asian Youth and Junior Boxing Championships currently taking place in Amman, Jordan on Thursday, after their superb performance in the semis to earn a place in their respective finals, which will be played on 13th and 14th March.
In the 46 kg semifinal, Krrish Pal produced a dominating performance against Kangpi Bokhunthod, thrashing his Thai opponent via unanimous decision. Hailing from Chandigarh, Krrish will take on Anushervon Fazylov of Tajikistan for the gold.
Meanwhile, Ravi Saini had a hard-fought battle in his 48 kg semifinal encounter against Bexultan Boranbek but was able to edge out with a close 3-2 win over the Kazakh pugilist. He will face lkhomjon Ergashev of Uzbekistan in the final.
Tonight will see seven more junior boxers from India in action in their respective semis- Jayant Dagar (54kg), Chetan (57kg), Yashwardhan Singh (60kg), Jackson Singh Laishram (70kg), Dev Pratap Singh (75kg), Rishabh Singh Shikharwar (80kg) and Gaurav Mhaske (+80kg).
As of now, the junior contingent has secured a total of 21 medals, with the boys winning 9 and the girls clinching 12, with 11 of them already set to fight in the finals. On Wednesday, defending champion Nikita Chand entered the 60 kg junior girls final after a win over Assel Mahmoud of Jordan by RSC.
Supriya Devi Thokchom (54kg), Vidhi (57kg), Shrushti Sathe (63kg), Rudrika (75kg) and Khushi Pooniya (80kg) also picked up wins in their respective junior semifinal bouts. Krisha Verma was the only junior who settled with a bronze after losing her 70 kg semifinal match.
