India’s Kuldeep Yadav has been out of the playing eleven for quite sometimes now but he was about to play in Australia when the veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin and pacer Jasprit Bumrah were ruled out of the fourth and final Test. He had claimed a five-wicket haul when he last played in a Test in Australia but the Indian team management didn’t add him.

Team India handed the debut caps to two net bowlers – Washington Sundar and T Natarajan, where Sunder was selected mainly because of his batting skills and off-spin and the latter one as the fourth seamer as well. On the other hand, Kuldeep Yadav was the only member of the original squad who did not play in the series despite the visitors trying 20 different players during the four-match Test series.

However, India bowling coach Bharat Arun revealed that Kuldeep is bowling ‘magnificently’ and ‘he will show what he can do’ when he will get the chance next and he is likely to get one in the upcoming four-match home series against England.

“Horses for courses is the best thing and when he gets a chance to play, he will show what he can do because he is bowling magnificently now and in India when we play these four Tests (against England) it will be his time,” Arun said.

He also stressed on the team’s bench strength prior to the England series. And, there shouldn’t be any doubt about India’s talent pool as many talented players are awaiting their debut for India as well.

“If you want India to be doing well sustainably, you need a pool of bowlers who will be rotated time and again so that they stay fresh. Now we are blessed with a great bench strength… This tour has taken a lot out of the boys, but now in future when you have seven fast bowlers raring to play for the country,” he shared.

“With the number of Tests we are going to play — four against England here and five in England –, it will be very handy. They will all be rotated and we will make sure the best team is put forward,” he told.

Kuldeep last played for India in the longer format was against Australia in Sydney in 2019. With the veteran campaigner, Ravindra Jadeja ruled out with a fractured thumb for the first two Tests against England, he might get the chance as the second spinner after Ashwin.

Team India will now play against England, where the first Test will take place in Chennai from February 5.
