Team India have adopted a new style and shown faith in the youngsters. The restructured squad that was fielded against New Zealand at ICC World Test Championship (WTC) Final saw a mix of the veterans as well as the young blood.

The former Indian batter Suresh Raina recently opened up on the criticism over Team India suffering a disappointing loss against the Kiwis.

The Men in Blue were lambasted for the performance on multiple occasions and were called ‘chokers’ at a huge stage. But, Raina backed the team and showed faith in skipper Virat Kohli and co.

The former Indian batting ace during an interview with News24 Sports spoke about India being called as chokers for their inability to win a trophy. The latest chance of winning an ICC Trophy was also relinquished to the Blackcaps.

He recalled India winning the 1983 World Cup, the 2007 T20 World Cup the then 50-over World Cup in 2011. Suresh Raina said that the players are working hard for the upcoming ICC tournaments and expect a good performance from them.

He said:

“See, we are not chokers, because we already have the 1983 World Cup, 2007 T20 World Cup the then 50-over World Cup in 2011. We need to understand that players are training hard. With three World Cups approaching, I don’t think anyone will call them chokers.”

Raina stated that skipper Virat Kohli and co. should be given little more time. He reckons Kohli has the capability to change the game and the new style should be respected which will help them bag an ICC Trophy in the upcoming year and half time.

He said: “We need to give them a little more time. They are doing well and Virat has the capability to change the game. We need to respect the new style of this team. But I feel that in the next 12 to 16 months, an ICC trophy is going to come to India.”

There have been doubts on Kohli as captain as he hasn’t managed to win an ICC trophy. Under him, India has come close to winning ICC trophies thrice but could not win it. On this matter, Suresh Raina said: “I feel that he needs to be given some time.”
