Indian Women’s football team has finally captured the U-19 SAFF Women’s title by clinching a thrilling win over Bangladesh Women’s Team on Thursday evening at BSSSMK Stadium in Bangladesh.

India holds a bleak record in this age group in SAFF (South Asian Football Federation) despite improving a lot in women’s football. The title had eluded India on more than one occasion. Most recently, it was the SAFF U20 Women’s Championship in Dhaka last year, when Bangladesh bettered India to win the trophy.

Thursday’s final was a massive opportunity which India grabbed and put the past records on fire and lift the title. The Young Tigresses certainly headed into the summit clash with a strong determination to seize the championship title.

India defeats Bangladesh

India went to the dressing room at the half time with a 1-0 lead as Sibani gave the visitors an early lead in 8 minutes. While it seemed that The Blue Tigresses won the contest, Bangladesh side equalised at 90+3 mins to set up the penalty shootout. Eventually, it was Team India who won the shootout and lifted the trophy.

In the group stage, India won comfortably against Bhutan (10-0) and Nepal (4-0) but lost to Bangladesh by a solitary goal before entering the final as the second-place finishers in the group.
