Indian skipper Virat Kohli led his team to an enormous win over the West Indies in the first Test in Antigua and the skipper himself added another feather to his cap, as he equalled MS Dhoni’s record of 27 Test wins, making him the joint-most successful captain for India in Test cricket. India beat the Windies by 318 runs after setting a target of 419. The West Indians were bowled out for 100 in the final innings of the Antigua Test which is also their lowest total against India in Tests.
Virat Kohli took the helm after MS Dhoni’s retirement from Test cricket during India’s tour of Australia way back in 2014. Under his leadership India won over Australia, England and New Zealand at home but suffered 2-1 and 4-1 losses in South Africa and England respectively. However, his ultimate success came in 2018, when Kohli led India to their first ever series win in Australia a feat no Indian captain achieved before. Team India dominated the Kangaroos to seal a historic 3-1 series win Down Under.
Before his retirement Dhoni had captained India in 60 Tests and had a win percentage of 45, with 27 wins 18 losses and 15 draws. But Kohli has equalled his (Dhoni) win tally in only 47 matches and has a better win percentage of 55.31, the best among all other Indian captains in the longest format with 27 wins, 10 losses and 10 draws. While another Indian legend, Sourav Ganguly is on third spot with 21 wins from 49 matches as skipper with 13 losses and 15 draws with a win percentage of 42.85.
