Indian opener Mayank Agarwal praised the West Indies bowlers after day one of the second Test match at Sabina Park, Kingston, Jamaica. The Karnataka batsman who scored a crucial 55 after India were asked to bat first, mainly lauded the two West Indian bowlers captain Jason Holder and debutant Rahkeem Cornwall. India finished their day’s play at 264 for 5. With Hanuma Vihari (42) and Rishabh Pant (27) on the pitch in a promising 62–run partnership for the sixth wicket.
In the post-match press conference Agarwal pointed that India are in a ‘great position’, and that it was difficult to play strokes against Holder and Roach up front and it became harder especially after Rahkeem Cornwall came into attack,
“We are in a great position. To have just lost five wickets on a track like that was a good effort from our side West Indies reduced. Kemar Roach and Holder bowled great areas. It wasn’t easy – there was a lot of moisture and the ball was doing a bit.”
After being sent to bat, India were down to 46 for 2 as KL Rahul got out in the 7th over and Cheteshwar Pujara falling victim of the off-spinner, Cornwall. The slow blower stands 6ft 5 inch and weighs more than 140 kilos; the heaviest cricketer to play Test the Windies player,
“He definitely gets a lot more bounce compared to many other spinners. He just keeps hitting those lengths He is very, very [consistent], he forms good clusters and he keeps bowling those areas, keeps bowling those areas. We took our time and it was very important for Virat and me to actually get a partnership going and it was important that one of us went on to score big,” Agarwal pointed out.
