The second Test between India and Australia of the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy is set to be underway at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Friday, February 17. It has been noted that it will mark the first time that Delhi is hosting a Test after a gap of more than five years. It has come to light that massive ticket sales have been recorded for the match. India took a 1-0 lead in the four-match series as they won the first Test at the Vidarbha Cricket Association Stadium in Nagpur by an innings and 132 runs in two and a half days.
India vs Australia 2nd Test match ticket sales
The Arun Jaitley Stadium has a seating capacity of almost 40,000. A total of 24,000 tickets were put on sale. Meanwhile, 8000 were distributed among the Delhi & District Cricket Association (DDCA) members as per the norms. The remaining seats will be used for some of the VIPs and VVIPs who will be in attendance.
A section of the stadium is also reserved for families providing security for the fixture. The DDCA joint secretary Rajan Manchanda, on Tuesday, informed that all the tickets are sold out. He also said that the board is expecting a full stadium during the Test match. Notably, there were a huge number of fans present in the opening Test at Nagpur.
“The tickets are sold out and we are expecting a full house. There is a lot of interest since a Test match is being played in Delhi after a long time,” Manchanda said as quoted by NDTV.
In the opening test match, Australia’s captain Pat Cummins won the toss and opted to bat first on the opening day of the first Test. The Aussie batters were lacklustre and guided them to just 177 runs in their first innings, with Ravindra Jadeja racking up a five-wicket haul and Ravichandran Ashwin picking three wickets.
India, in their first innings, scored a mammoth 400 to take a 223-run lead, with captain Rohit Sharma scoring a ton. Rohit reached the milestone of becoming the first Indian captain to score a century in all formats of the game. On Day 3, Australia in their second innings could only manage to score 91 runs as the hosts were victorious in the first Test of the series.
