Coming off from a 1-2 loss in the ODIs, Team India bounced back strong in the first T20 on 4th December at the Manuka Oval in Canberra, defeating the Aussies by 11 runs.

While Dhawan and Kohli’s innings were met with early dismissals, KL Rahul carried the score forward with an impressive fifty, with a couple of hits coming from Sanju Samson. However, the taking point of the match Ravindra Jadeja landed a stormy 23-ball-44 unbeaten, which clocked India’s total to 161 for 7 wickets. Moises Henriques secured triple strikes for the Aussies, while Starc picked two scalps.

While the target was not out of the comfort zone of Australia, the absolutely remarkable performance from the Men in Blue bowling squad proved to be highly effective. Both T. Natarajan and Chahal, the latter who was subbed in for Jadeja, picked three scalps each as the Aussie batting squad lost wickets one by one. Add to that a stunning 4.00 economy rate from Washington Sundar, Australia were restricted to 150 at the end of 20 overs.

Waging odds: India (1.90) vs Australia (1.83)

India are priced at 1.90 and are the underdogs. Betting ₹100 on them will earn you ₹190 if they come out as winners.

Australia are the waging favourites and are priced at 1.83, meaning if you bet ₹100 on them and if they win the match, you’ll be making ₹183.

Expected starting 11:

India: KL Rahul, Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli, Manish Pandey, Sanju Samson, Hardik Pandya, Washington Sundar, Deepak Chahar, Shardul Thakur, T Natarajan, Jasprit Bumrah/Yuzvendra Chahal.

Australia: Aaron Finch, D’ Arcy Short, Steve Smith, Mathew Wade, Glenn Maxwell, Moses Henriques, Sean Abbott, Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, Adam Zampa, Mitch Swepson.

Our prediction:

While missing out the injured Jadeja for the rest of the T20 series may impact Team India, the replacement Shardul Thakur and the superb bowling spell from Chahal can prove effective once again in the next match. Plus, the win in the first T20 will be working as a confidence booster for Kohli and co as another win will have them victorious in the T20I series before the Tests.

The absence of David Warner and Pat Cummins have impacted Australia heavily, while the impressive all-rounder performance from the veteran Henriques is a plus point for the hosts, who will go harder to clinch a win and to make it 1-1.

It will likely be a victory for Team India.
