Following two upsetting defeats in the first two matches of the recently concluded three-match ODI series, Team India bounced back to secure a victory in the third game, finishing the series 2-1 but also preventing Australia from securing a 3-0 whitewash.

Despite crossing 300 runs in all three ODIs, India failed to chase down Australia’s total in the first two matches. However, things turned around when they were the ones defending a total of 302 in the third ODI and the bowing squad remarkably defended the total to wipe out the Aussie batting order on 289.

While the hosts have been the favourites for the T20Is, the chances are higher for Team India to come out as winners. The absence of David Warner and Pat Cummins is likely to be a big blow to Australia and while filling their shoes is no walk in the park, Justin Langer will likely put Matthew Wade or D’Arcy Short for Warner Sean Abbott for Cummins.

For the Men in Blue, Washington Sundar is expected to solve the sixth bowler problem, while KL Rahul, who enjoyed s spectacular IPL campaign will reprise his role as the opener, and his KXIp teammate Mayank Agarwal may also team upfront. Deepak Chahar will be joining in for bowling duties as well. T Natarajan is expected to make his T20I debut as well.

Waging odds: India (2.00) vs Australia (1.72)

India are priced at 2.00 and are the underdogs. Betting ₹100 on them will earn you ₹200 if they come out as winners.

Australia are the waging favourites and are priced at 1.72, meaning if you bet ₹100 on them and if they win the match, you’ll be making ₹172.

Expected starting 11:

India: Shikhar Dhawan/Mayank Agarwal, KL Rahul (WK), Virat Kohli (C), Shreyas Iyer, Manish Pandey, Hardik Pandya, Ravindra Jadeja, Deepak Chahar, Yuzvendra Chahal, Jasprit Bumrah and T Natarajan

Australia: Aaron Finch (C), Matt Wade/D’Arcy Short, Steve Smith, Glenn Maxwell, Alex Carey (WK), Cameron Green, Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, Ashton Agar, Adam Zampa and Sean Abbott

Our prediction:

Australia are the current no. 1 T20I team in the ICC Men’s T20I teams ranking and coming out strong from the ODI series win, will be eyeing to clinch the T20 series as well, although, the absence of Warner and Cummins is a blow to them.

India, on the other hand, are fresh off of a stunning victory and with an abundance of top tier T20 players who proved themselves in the UAE will be high on confidence to start the series with a win.

It will be a victory for Team India.
