India U19 continued their merry way in the tournament after they defeated Australia in the 1st Quarter-final of the U19 World Cup in Potchefstroom on Tuesday.
Australia U19 won the toss and elected to field. The Indian openers Yashasvi Jaiswal and Divyansh Saxena started off cautiously but then fell quickly to Corey Kelly and then followed the young Andhra batsman Tilak Varma and then the captain Priyam Garg fell to Murphy and Connor Sully leaving India in a spot of bother at 54/3 in the 15th over.
The Mumbai opening batsman continued his good form in the tournament and continued playing his shots and kept scoring quick runs on a hard pitch and scored his third half century of the tournament.
Jaiswal then eventually fell to Tanveer Sangha who bowled him when the youngster was at 62. India then lost successive wickets to get themselves into trouble , India found themselves at 144 for 6 with all the batsmen gone. It was onto the two young all-rounders Atharva Ankolekar and Ravi Bishnoi who then stitched a sensible partnership to help India reach a total of 200.
Atharva Ankolekar went onto score a run a ball 50 and helped India reach a total of 233 at the end of 50 overs.
Australia needed 234 in 50 overs and were happy with their bowling performance. They were unaware of the storm named Krtik Tyagi.
Australia lost their first wicket in the very first over after a confusion between the openers caused the wicket of Fraser-Mcgruck. Kartik Tyagi then counted for captain Mackenzie Harvey and Lachlan Hearne , reducing the Australians to 4 for 3 in the very first over.
A partnership between the opener Sam Fanning and wicket keeper Patrick Rowe was seen but then pacer Akash Singh counted for the openers wicket and then it was the spinners Atharva Ankolekar and leggie Ravi Bishnoi who controlled the scoring rate which helped pacer capitalize and take wickets at regular intervals.
Australia were then bowled out for 159, which meant India won the Quarter-final comfortably by 79 runs.
India will face either Afghanistan or Pakistan in the Semi-finals.
