In the ever-evolving world of football, rankings serve as a barometer of a team’s performance and progress. Recently, the Indian men’s national football team found itself at the 124th position in the FIFA rankings. Meanwhile, Argentina, the reigning Copa America champions, continued to assert their dominance at the top.

Downfall continues for Indian Football in FIFA Rankings

India’s ranking has been on a downward trajectory since December last year. The team dropped three places in the June rankings after failing to qualify for the third round of the 2026 World Cup Qualifiers. Defeats against Qatar and Afghanistan contributed to this decline.

The outcome also resulted in head coach Igor Stimac’s sacking by the All India Football Federation (AIFF). Later this year, India will play a friendly tri-nation series in Vietnam. The hosts Vietnam and Lebanon are the other two sides.

India had previously broken into the top 100, achieving a best ranking of 99. However, recent setbacks have pushed them further down the ladder. In the Asian rankings, India remains in the 22nd position. Countries like Lebanon, Palestine, and Vietnam are ahead of India in the Asian football landscape.

Argentina continues to reign supreme, holding the 1st position. France, the Euro 2024 semi-finalists, maintain their position as the closest challengers. Spain celebrates their European championship victory by climbing to 3rd place. England moves up one spot to 4th, surpassing Brazil.
