While the relation between India and Pakistan is no secret at all, it affects the cricketing relation between the two countries as well. And, both teams only play each other in ICC events. However, Former India cricketer Gautam Gambhir has recently opened up on the idea of resumption of cricket between India and Pakistan.

He said that until Islamabad stops cross-border terrorism in Jammu & Kashmir, cricket shouldn’t be started between two teams. In a recent interview with IANS at his home in Delhi, Gautam Gambhir, said, “Ultimately, cricket does not matter. The lives of our soldiers do.”

Gautam Gambhir, who has joined the BJP Party in Delhi in the 2019 parliamentary elections, said that Indian cricketers get paid quite well for playing for the country but the scene is different for soldiers as they defend the nation selflessly. He also recalled as a child, he wanted to join the Indian Army but later his game earned him a place in the Indian squad.

“I haven’t done any favour to anyone by playing and winning for the country. But look at someone who is defending us on Siachen or Pakistan border, risking his life for a small amount of money. They are the greatest heroes of our country,” he said.

However, his love for the military and the Indian Army uniform stays forever as he refuses to accept any honorary offers to join the territorial army which is meant for civilians in India as well. He also added that no one should wear the military uniform who has not earned it as soldiers who wear it give their everything to defend the country.

“135 million Indian soldiers are brand ambassadors of the Indian Defence Forces. They don’t need brand ambassadors to promote themselves,” Gautam Gambhir again shared. “They give their lives to protect us. The least we can do is stand by them.”

He also stated that until Pakistan stops cross-border terrorism, India should not play cricket with them. “I would have taken this stand with or without being in politics. I have always held similar views,” he further added
