In a heart-wrenching turn of events, both the Indian men’s and women’s 4x400m relay teams fell short of qualifying for the finals at the Paris Olympics 2024. The women’s relay team, comprising Jyothika Sri Dandi, Subha Venkatesan, Vithya Ramraj, MR Poovamma, and Prachi, finished 15th out of 16 teams in the qualification round. Their timing was 3:32:51, and only Cuba finished below them with a slightly slower time of 3:33:99.
The United States secured the top spot with an impressive timing of 3:21:44, which also happened to be their season’s best. Great Britain also delivered their season’s best performance with a time of 3:24:72.
Men’s 4x400m relay team’s performance
The men’s relay team, consisting of Amol Jacob, Rajesh Ramesh, Santhosh Kumar, Muhammed Ajmal, and Muhammed Anas, fought valiantly but ultimately finished 10th. Their timing of 3:00.58 was their season’s best, yet it wasn’t enough to secure a spot in the finals. Botswana emerged as the top qualifier with an impressive time of 2:57:76.

Other teams in the men’s 4x400m relay final include Great Britain, the United States, Japan, France, Belgium, Zambia, and Italy.
Despite their best efforts, India couldn’t recover from the initial setbacks. As we bid farewell to the relay events, we still have moments of pride, like Neeraj Chopra’s silver in javelin, to cherish. In the grand arena of Paris, these athletes gave their all. While the podium eluded them this time, their spirit remains unbroken.
