India exits Badminton Asian Championship despite Lakshya Sen’s heroics

Lakshya Sen continued his dominance in Men’s Singles as he garnered yet another win this time in Quarter Finals against Japan in Badminton Asian Championship. The Indian prodigy defeated Koki Watanabe 21-19, 22-20 in two straight rounds. After this match, Lakshya also grabbed 6100 points, which is crucial for qualification for the Paris Olympics.

With an incredible display of performances, Lakshya is very much in the race to make it to the mega event in July.

However, India failed to cross the challenge as Japan’s Kento Momota produced an inspiring comeback in the final game of the Men’s Singles of the final round.

Lakshya Sen inspires a terrific comeback in Quarter Finals

After a setback in the dead rubber final group round against China, India took an early blow as World No.7 HS Prannoy lost to Kenta Nishimoto 21-16, 26-24. Though he resisted a defeat in the second game with a tough fight, Nishimoto successfully closed the match.

World No.1 in Men’s Doubles Satwiksairaj Rankireddy-Chirag Shetty beat Kenya Mitsuhashi/Hiroki Okamura 21-15, 21-17 quite comfortably. Lakshya Sen featured in 3rd match and produced a win to give a lead to the country.

In another Men’s Doubles match, MR Arjun-Dhruv Kapila lost to Akira Koga-Kazuki Shibata 21-17, 21-15, as Japan leveled the score, which made the final Men’s Singles game as the deciding round.

The former World No.1 Kidambi Srikanth took the court in the final round of Men’s Singles. The Indian star started by winning his first game, but Kento Momoto thrillingly won the next two rounds to see his country into the semis.

Already, the Indian Women’s team qualified for the Semis and was guaranteed a medal in the event.
