India made a clean sweep of the team events at the ongoing Archery World Cup Stage 1 in Shanghai, underlining their supremacy in non-Olympic compound archery. The Indian archery team bagged a hat-trick of gold medals in the compound team events.
Hat-Trick for India at Archery World Cup
The women’s compound team, consisting of Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Aditi Swami, and Parneet Kaur, dropped just four points to trounce Italy 236-225. They missed the perfect 10 only twice in the first three ends of six arrows each, taking a handsome 178-171 lead over Italy. Despite dropping two points in the fourth end, they nailed the gold with an 11-point margin.
The men’s team, comprising Abhishek Verma, Priyansh, and Prathamesh Fuge, went one step further. They missed just two points en route to defeating the Netherlands’ team of Mike Schloesser, Sil Pater, and Stef Willems 238-231. They began with a perfect round of 60 and dropped just two points in the next two ends, before sealing the win with another perfect 60 in the final set of six arrows.
The mixed team event saw the second-seeded duo of Jyothi and Abhishek ward off a late resurgence from their Estonian rivals, Lisell Jaatma and Robin Jaatma, to win 158-157 in a thrilling finish. This victory marked a double gold medal for the reigning Asian Games champion Jyothi, who is also in the hunt for an individual gold.

The victories are particularly significant given that compound archery is a non-Olympic event. The Indian archers’ exceptional performance has set high expectations for the upcoming events, including the final Olympic Qualifiers and the Paris 2024 Olympics.
