The Indian Football Team, under the guidance of head coach Igor Stimac, has announced a 27-member squad for the upcoming FIFA World Cup Qualifier against Kuwait, which marks the farewell of Indian Legend, Sunil Chhetri. The match, scheduled for June 6, will be held at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan in Kolkata.
The squad was selected from a pool of 32 players who were undergoing a rigorous training camp in Bhubaneswar. Five players, namely Phurba Lachenpa, Parthib Gogoi, Imran Khan, Muhammad Hammad, and Jithin MS were released from the camp. Unfortunately, Parthib Gogoi and Muhammad Hammad had to miss out due to injuries.
Stimac praised all the players for their professionalism and hard work. He acknowledged the strong competition among them, especially in the positions of Jithin and Parthib. The remaining 27 players will continue their training routine in Bhubaneswar until May 29, after which the team will travel to Kolkata.
Sunil Chhetri’s farewell game
