Rohit Sharma’s eventful tour continued as he notched up his maiden test double hundred. Vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane too managed to get through his first hundred in India in three years.

Resuming the day on a healthy 164 run-stand, the duo from Mumbai eased their way through the initial stages.

Rohit Sharma hit a slew of sixes and got to his double tun with a hoick off Lungi Ngidi to massive cheers in Ranchi. The Hitman’s beast mode did not last long as he found the fielder after a six-hitting spree.

Ajinkya Rahane was the first victim of George Linde while Klassen got his maiden test catch as well. Ravindra Jadeja once again proved his worth with the willow with yet another fifty. The real surprise package came in the form of Umesh Yadav’s whose late theatrics brought the crowd to its feet.

Yadav scored five sixes in the span of ten balls to record the highest strike rate of an innings with a minimum of ten balls played. Kohli decided to declare the total at 497, aiming to give the bowlers a chance before the end of the day.

The frontline pacers continued their streak as they continued to peg away the top order batsmen. The openers Dean Elgar and Quinton de Kock fell prey to short balls to reduce the Proteas to 9-2. The play was once again called off early due to bad light.
