India managed to secure their first-ever T20 victory over the Proteas on home soil after a comfortable 7-wicket win in Mohali. Virat Kohli led the chase with his record-breaking 22nd T20I fifty.
The newly appointed South African skipper Quinton de Kock was put in to bat first by Virat Kohli. The powerplay saw Reeza Hendricks being dismissed by Deepak Chahar which brought in the debutant Temba Bavuma. After laying a solid foundation, the skipper had to make his way back to the pavilion after a sensational catch by Kohli.
The debutant was put into pressure by Navdeep Saini and Deepak Chahar after Ravindra Jadeja made early work of van der Dussen. Bavuma was eventually dismissed for 49 with Miller following suit soon after, courtesy of Hardik Pandya.
South Africa instilled life into the game with an explosive last over which leaked 16 runs which took their score to 149-5. Chasing 150, the reliable old pair of Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan got the team off to a flying start.
The Hitman was dismissed by Phehlukwayo for a run-a-ball 12 in the powerplay. Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli ensured to keep the run flow going with a steady partnership. The stand came to an end when Shikhar Dhawan was caught in the deep by a stunning take from David Miller.
Rishabh Pant could only score 4 runs while Iyer stood with the skipper till the end to achieve the target with an over to spare.
