India’s unbeaten run in the World Test Championship continued with a massive victory over the Proteas at Vizag. This victory extends their lead in the table over New Zealand.

Proteas’ first outing in the World Test Championship ended in defeat as the hosts emerged victorious by 206 runs. Entrusted with an uphill task of scaling down 396 in the fourth innings, South Africa were hit with an early blow during the end of Day 4 itself with Dean Elgar back in the pavilion.
The Indian bowling attack got to work early with first-inning hero Ashwin scalping the wicket of de Bruyn. The trend followed suit as Mohammad Shami showed his proficiency in the fourth innings by castling out the middle order. The chase took an evident turn as Jadeja ran riot by picking up three wickets in an over.
South Africa’s spin duo of Dane Piedt and Muthuswamy prolonged India’s moment by stitching out a partnership of 91 runs. While Piedt got his maiden test fifty, the debutant Muthuswamy was unbeaten on 49 while Shami picked up a five-wicket haul to his name.
