On a day where the hosts continued to pile misery on South Africa, Mayank Agarwal etched the spotlight for himself with a double century. The Proteas face an uphill task of turning the game around in their favour with 3 more days to go.
Resuming the day from a solid scoreline of 202-0, the openers Rohit Sharma and Mayank Agarwal continued right where they left things on Day 1 at Vizag. Sharma, who had brought up his fourth test one, and the first as an opener, got the scoreboard going until his dismissal. Sharma missed out on a double ton as he was stumped after a well made 176, which constituted 23 fours and 6 sixes.
Mayank Agarwal made most of the conditions and brought up his maiden ton and proceeded to convert it into a double century. He became the first Indian batsman to covert his maiden ton to a double hundred after Vinod Kambli. In a bid to accelerate the scoring, the rest of the Indian line-up did not contribute much. The innings was eventually declared by Kohli at 502-7.
The spin twins Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja got into action early by picking up three early wickets during the late end of the day’s play. South Africa are currently reeling at 39-3 after the end of Day 2.
