IND vs ENG 2nd T20I Review: Kishan-Kohli steer the chase as India patch up cracks from defeat to level series

Ahmedabad once again played host to the second match of the T20 series between the top two ranked sides in the world. India had their task cut out for them as they trailed 1-0 in the series on the bank of the heavy defeat in the previous match. Rotation, strategy and execution were the key aspects on display as India romped away to victory.

India handed debuts to Ishan Kishan and Suryakumar Yadav as they won the toss and elected to field first. Axar Patel and Shikhar Dhawan paved way for the debutant batsmen.

England, on the other hand, just announced one change. Tom Curran was slotted into the side in place of Mark Wood.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar got India off to a bright start by dismissing Jos Buttler for a golden duck. The wicket-keeper batsman was trapped right in front and was adjudged LBW.

Jason Roy and No.1 ranked batsman Dawid Malan stitched a solid stand for the second wicket and negotiated the powerplay with the balance of risk and caution.

Yuzvendra Chahal kept Roy at bay by bowling wide off the stump, but the opener countered it with a series of reverse sweeps. Chahal delivered the breakthrough with the wicket of Malan after a successful review.

Impeccable death bowling restricted England to just 164-7 at the end of their 20 overs. The middle-order were unable to convert their starts with a total of 180 being probable at the halfway mark.

KL Rahul registered his second successive duck as Sam Curran set things rolling with a maiden over. The hosts salvaged the powerplay despite the early wicket as debutant Kishan and skipper Kohli paced their innings.

Ishan Kishan set the ground ablaze with his clean hitting and strut to a fifty in quick time. An ill-fated reverse sweep brought the curtains down on Kishan’s sublime innings.

Kohli played the anchor with regular boundaries and strike rotation while Pant joined in to chip in with a quickfire cameo.

The Indian skipper rallied on to get onto a much-needed half-century as the team wrapped up the chase to win by 7 wickets.
