Declaring on their overnight night score of 493/6, India declared the innings with a lead of 343 in the bank. What proceeded was the longest ever opening fast bowling spell in the second innings of a home test since 2001. Virat Kohli introduced spin in the 24th over, after the initial damage was done by the lethal pace attack.

Reeling at 44-4, the visitors had an uphill task at hand with the spin attack yet to operate. None of the top-order batsmen failed to get to double figures while Rahim fought a lone battle with a well-crafted half-century.

Mehidy Hasan and Liton Das chipped in with cameos but it was in vain as Ashwin poked his way into the second innings with the wicket of the wicket-keeper batsman.

Mayank Agarwal was adjudged as the man of the match for his double ton. The teams now gear up for the historic Day-Night test which is set to take place under the floodlights of the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata.
