Ruturaj Gaikwad scripted history as he became the first Indian player to score a century against Australia in T20 format. This also marks his maiden ton in the format. The massive milestone took place when India faced Australia in the 3rd T20I at the Barsapara Stadium in Guwahati. The youngster wreaked havoc at the venue and destroyed the Aussie bowlers.
Gaikwad reached the ton in 52 balls with a six off Glenn Maxwell in the 20th over of India’s innings. He smashed a couple of sixes and two fours as Maxwell conceded 30 runs off the last over to help India post a mammoth 222 for three in 20 overs.
Gaikwad’s highest score before Tuesday was 71 in the 20 ODIs and T20Is combined that he has played since his international debut in 2021. It is a do-or-die contest for Australia as India already have a 2-0 lead in the series and a win in the third one will hand them an secure lead.
