After suffering early blows from Pakistan and New Zealand, India will face Afghanistan in their third match on Wednesday in Abu Dhabi. A do-or-die game to grab an entry to the semifinals, India must blaze all the guns. India witnessed a humiliating loss to Pakistan in the T20 opener, a first loss in the world cup events. Batting first, India had no clue to counter the Pakistani pace attack and submitted ultimately. Shaheen Afridi got rid of the openers in his first two openers and nudged India to stick to defensive mode. While defending, Indian bowlers had no impact on Pakistan batters and went wicketless. Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan dominated Indian bowlers and guided Pakistan to a memorable 10-wicket victory.
The top-order woes continued to trouble the Indian team against New Zealand in their last encounter. Kiwis pacers Trent Boult and Tim Southee picked up regular wickets, and the spin attack succeeded in building pressure in the Indian camp. Except for Ravindra Jadeja, no other Indian batter stood against Kiwi bowling and only managed to put up a paltry score of 110. Chasing an easy score, New Zealand openers provided a brilliant start, and captain Williamson finished the formalities.
