IND v ENG: Virat Kohli needs just one ODI century to clinch staggering career milestone!

87

India captain Virat Kohli is all set to achieve a huge milestone. Although he has not been scoring big in recent times, he might come closer to equal the batting legend Sachin Tendulkar’s record in the upcoming ODI series against England, surpassing Ricky Ponting.

Kohli last hit a ton in November 2019, if he manages to get another century, he could manage a lot of records as well. A century will help him to stand along with Tendulkar in the list of Indian batsman with most centuries at home, in ODIs as well. Apart from that, if he manages to score a hundred, he would become the captain with most centuries across formats in international cricket too, surpassing the former Australia captain Ponting. As of now, both of them have 41 centuries in their names as skipper.

On the other hand, Kohli confirmed India’s opening pair for the ongoing ODI series where he revealed that Shikhar Dhawan would open alongside Rohit Sharma against England at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune. His comments came after Kohli and Sharma opened in the final T20I match against England.

“As far as the opening partnership is concerned, Shikhar and Rohit will definitely start. When it comes to ODI cricket, I don’t think there is any issue or doubt over Rohit or Shikhar opening together. They have been amazing for us in the past few years,” said Kohli while speaking to the media in the virtual pre-match media interaction.

“Firstly, the combination that plays on the field, selectors don’t have any role to play in that, just how the team management doesn’t have any role in selection. Secondly, as Rohit mentioned, it was a strategic move but yes we did enjoy batting with each other, we did enjoy that partnership and we saw the effects of us batting together… it’s not a guarantee that this is going to be continued in future,” Virat Kohli revealed.
