The International Cricket Council (ICC) is actively seeking a new female independent director after Indra Nooyi completed her six-year term. Nooyi, who became ICC’s first independent woman director in 2018, has made significant contributions during her tenure.

Nooyi’s appointment as the first female independent director was a groundbreaking moment. Her leadership and insights have been invaluable to the ICC.

ICC to search for new female director

The new director must meet specific eligibility criteria to represent diversity in cricket. The ICC aims to ensure equality, inclusivity, and varied perspectives within its leadership.

A source close to the all-powerful ICC Board was asked about the exact criteria for the appointment and he said that it could be any woman of eminence — be it from the corporate world or sports.

“It could be anyone who has contributed in sports, business or in general. Just for example, it could be Meg Lanning, Charlotte Edwards or someone powerful from the business community. Basically, anyone who is eligible and person of eminence with a contribution to sport,” the source said.

The new director will be elected for a two-year term by the Board of Directors. She will also be eligible to vote during the chairman’s election. As Nooyi’s chapter concludes, the ICC looks forward to welcoming a new female leader who will continue to shape the future of cricket governance.
