The International Cricket Council (ICC) has recently announced the winners of the ICC Development Awards for 2023, recognizing remarkable contributions to associate cricket. These awards celebrate initiatives that have significantly impacted the growth of the sport globally.
ICC rewards Six Associate Nations for excellence
Mexico Cricket Association pioneered multiple projects, including sending a team to the Street Child Cricket World Cup in India. They also run a unique Cricket in Prisons program, enhancing inmate rehabilitation in Mexico City.
Chairman of Mexico Cricket, Ben Owen, expressed pride in this recognition, emphasizing the value of their volunteers’ efforts and the game’s growth in Central America.
Oman launched the Cricket4Her program, redefining women’s cricket in the country. Sixteen teams participated in soft ball tournaments, and nine teams transitioned to hard ball cricket league play, creating a pathway for young women in Oman.
Chairman of Oman Cricket, Pankaj Khimji, sees this achievement as a pedestal for women’s cricket, aiming to involve more schools, colleges, and local communities.
The Netherlands won the ICC Associate Member Men’s Performance of the Year award after their successful 2023. The team qualified for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023 with stellar wins over West Indies and Scotland. They managed to beat the likes of Bangladesh and South Africa in the tournament.

The United Arab Emirates won the ICC Associate Member Women’s Performance of the Year. The Emirari women’s team went unbeaten at the Women’s T20 World Cup Asia Qualifier and ended with a win in the final of the tournament.
Nepal won the ICC Digital Fan Engagement Initiative of the Year as they recorded notable growth. The team recorded a growth in reach on the Facebook channels of by over 400%.
Scotland won the Cricket 4 Good Social Impact Initiative of the Year as they teamed up with Beyond Boundaries, a Scottish charity. They use cricket programmes to support young, disadvantaged and under-represented people in the country.
These awards highlight the transformative work carried out by these nations, fostering cricket’s growth and inspiring future generations. As associate cricket continues to evolve, these initiatives serve as beacons of progress and dedication.
