ICC CWC 2019: England vs. West Indies Preview; Can Andre Russell repeat his IPL heroics?

96

The ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 is boasting another great and extremely exciting match-up for today, an enthralling contest between the hosts and strong favourites England and a mighty but unpredictable West Indies.

England quite easily have the most well balanced squad in the entire tournament. They have an incredibly deep batting line-up and even the likes of out and out fast bowlers like Jofra Archer can also bat relatively well. Thus, extending their batting line-up down till 8th or 9th position. They also have plenty of ‘X-Factor’ batsmen in their line-up like Johnny Bairstow, Joe Root, Jos Butler, among many others.

They also have good all-rounders who can turn the ball well like Moeen Ali and Ben Stokes. And a classic spinner in the form of Adil Rashid.

On the other hand, even the West Indies have a well balanced squad with good fast bowlers like Oshane Thomas and Sheldon Cottrell. Ashley Nurse as the spinner is a weak link, but still is a quality bowler.

They have great batting as well, with the explosive and experienced Chris Gayle up front and Shai Hope, Shimron Hetmyer, Nicholas Pooran providing the much need stability, while the likes of Jason Holder, Andre Russell and Carlos Brathwaite being in the lower order to accelerate the run rate and hit big sixes.

However, another worry for the Windies should be the injury of Russell. He had a slight issue with his knee and there is still a question mark over his fitness. Russell is arguably West Indies’ biggest x-factor in this tournament and they will certainly be praying for his fitness.
